GESE 7 National Customs: An Integrated Skills Lesson

GESE 7 National Customs Lesson

In this download you can find a lesson to help students prepare for Trinity’s GESE 7 exam and the National Customs subject area. In this lesson, the students talk about their homes, they read a text about customs regarding covering windows, and then they talk about and write an article about how national customs affect home design.

How to use the GESE 7 National Customs Lesson

The lesson starts with a pre-reading speaking task where students talk about their homes and where they would like to live. They also look at photos of different homes and talk about their opinions of them.

After this, there is an ISE II style long reading text about the custom of covering windows – the students read the text, match headings to paragraphs, find the true statements, and fill in some missing words in sentences. All good practice if your students are going to do the ISE II exam later :). And for GESE 7, lots of language and ideas about national customs and their origins for the speaking exam.

After reading, the students respond to the text with their own thoughts by answering some questions, and then they discuss some of the other influences that national customs can have on home design. These ideas are then used in an article writing task.
