GESE 6 Fashion Lesson

A GESE 6 Fashion Lesson Plan

In this download, you can find an integrated skills lesson about the topic of FASHION to help your GESE 6 students prepare for the fashion conversation area. It involves reading, writing and speaking about how fashion has changed over the decades of the last 100 years.

How to use the GESE 6 Fashion Lesson

The lesson starts with a brief discussion about how clothes have changed over the last 100 years and what people wore in previous decades. The students have to match pictures of clothes with the decades that they came from, then describe the clothes the people wore in each decade.

The next part of the class involves a reading text about how fashion is related to changes in society. The reading is an ISE I style reading activity – the students match titles to paragraphs, they find true statements and they have to complete sentences with a few words from the text. However, even if your students aren’t thinking about doing an ISE exam, the reading questions are still good practice as they ask the students to skim and scan the text and read for more detailed information – very useful second language reading skills to develop!

After completing the reading, there are some discussion questions for the students to talk about. This will help them to use some of the previous vocabulary and think about some typical questions which might come up in the conversation task of the GESE 6 exam.

Finally, there is a writing task where students have to write an article about their favourite fashion decade.
