GESE 2 Revision Fortune Teller

GESE 2 Revision

Do you remember playing with origami fortune tellers as a child? You have to say the colours and the numbers and then you find your fortune inside … Well, kids still love playing with them today and, with a few changes, they can be used to revise the language of the grade. Here is an example for GESE Grade 2 revision – it revises days and months, numbers 1-50, simple adjectives and pets.

In the download below you will find two files – the first is a printable version of the fortune teller you can see in the picture above and the second is a blank template where you can simply add the text you want and print out the fortune teller. So you can make changes and revise whatever language you want.

How to make a fortune teller

Origami fortune tellers are really easy to make and only require a bit of folding. Here are a couple of really good sites with simple instructions and pictures you can use to show your students what to do:

Basically, you just print them out, fold four corners to the middle, turn over, fold the four corners to the middle again and then fold into quarters. Super easy :)

How to play

In the standard version, one person holds the fortune teller closed and asks someone to pick something from the four options that can be seen. They spell out the word, moving their fingers and opening and closing the fortune teller as they say each letter. The person then chooses from one of the four options inside – they spell or count the choice again. Then the person chooses again from one of the four options they can see and the fortune teller looks inside to see their fortune!

GESE 2 revision version

In this version, student A holds the fortune teller and shows it to student B. For the first choice (blue), B has to answer the question with a day or a month. A spells out the answer. For the second choice (green), B’s answer to the question is a number, and A counts out the number. When B gives the third answer, A opens up the fortune teller and looks at the ‘fortune’ inside (purple). This is an instruction for to follow – they have to act out being a pet or act out an emotion adjective.

So, it revises days, months, numbers, pets, and adjectives. And the students have great fun :)
